Andi Covell, Gauri Wainganker, Ann Butler, and Michael Lagasse recently volunteered to help remove invasive Brazilian Pepper plants from A1A near Island Estates.
Brazilian Pepper plants are native to Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina. It is believed that they made it to Florida as early as 1842. These invasive plants pose a threat because they create a canopy that shades out and kills native plants. There is already over 700,000 acres of Brazilian Pepper plants in Florida.
The Hammock Conservation Coalition is doing its part to protect the Hammock from this invasive species. If you are interested in helping, please join our group by clicking here.
